Website Upgrades: 5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs One NOW

Your website.

It’s the place customers go to learn about your products and make a purchase. Maybe it’s a spot for you to create and build a community for consumers with an interest in your services.

It’s pretty important, right? I’m pretty sure you’d agree with me that a website is a key component in building a thriving business.

But what happens if traffic isn’t where you want it to be? Do your analytics show that more people hop OFF the page than browse or make purchases? Are you buried pages and pages down Google’s search engine despite having a website for years?

Those are some pretty good signs it’s time for a website upgrade. When was the last time you upgraded the copy on your site? With the constant change and search engine updates, anything built even a few years ago is likely not optimized in a way that attracts and retains customers.

Some website are downright ancient looking – like 1990’s ancient.

You might be thinking, it’s definitely time for a copy upgrade. Heck, you might also be thinking, “is this something I really need?” I’m here to share five reasons why you need a website upgrade PRONTO.

Reason #1: It could stand a visual makeover.

Let’s face it. A lot of things these days are designed to be ‘aesthetically pleasing.’ Want customers to post all kinds of pretty pictures on Instagram? Your products need to look nice. The same thing goes for the brand’s website! If it looks outdated, loads slowly or is confusing, you’re going to end up losing potential customers and you know what that means: LOST SALES.

The brand’s website should be clean, concise and offer value – not only in the products or services you offer but the information + content you provide.

Reason #2: You write the content yourself.

Okay so you write the content yourself, not a big deal right? Well – if you’re the CEO I’m pretty sure you have other things on your plate.

You’re also super connected to your brand and that’s where your content influence comes from – but is it as effective as it could be? When you only have a few LITERAL seconds to grab the attention of your customer, is your copy doing that for you? Hiring a professional copywriter + content creator offers value in a couple particular ways:

  • Gives you back your most treasured resource: time. Time to run your business and not get bogged down with the details.

  • A copywriter easily creates content that’s educational and effective. Simple is always better so while you might be super knowledgeable in your brand or products you might end up talking over your customers – not TO them.

Reason #3: It’s just not effective as it could be.

Is your website floating around out there in the open water known as the Internet? If your stats are dragging your website down it’s time to take a look at the analytics. What pages do your readers look at most? What are they clicking on? What traffic sources are bringing them to your page?

Checking out the statistics will really clue you in on where to make some powerful changes.

Reason #4: SEO-huh?!

SEO – even if you don’t know exactly what it does you know it’s important for your website. When search engines are constantly updating it’s vital that your website changes too in order to keep up and remain relevant. The longer it takes for you to make updates to the site the further down the search engine you fall.

How do you change this? Upgrade your content and post new content consistently!

Reason #5: Your customers are lost.

Navigating your website shouldn’t involve a map and a compass – it should be easy to scan and scroll! The longer it takes for your customers to find something the more chance there is of them hopping off and going elsewhere. In today’s world we want everything NOW and no one (I mean literally NO ONE) is going to wait around and click a bunch of tabs just to find what they came looking for on your website.

So – do any of these points stick out to you? If you found yourself nodding your head to any one of these reasons let’s get your website back up and running optimally. I only work with a few website clients at a time so reach out and let’s get you on the calendar!

Does My Business Need a Blog?

“I don’t think I need a blog for my website, it doesn’t sound like it would be very helpful for my industry.”

“Isn’t a blog something that someone writes like a journal or a diary?”

“We just don’t have the budget for a blog.”

Have you thought some of these things or cut your blog out of your marketing strategy completely? You’re costing yourself a lot of valuable attention (and revenue) that you could otherwise be making!

Do I need a Business Blog?

The above statements are just some of the responses I’ve heard when talking to business owners and brands about the value of business blogs. For some businesses, a blog has been established and a few posts have been added – but it hasn’t been updated in months or years and is just collecting dust. Others express that having a business blog just doesn’t seem helpful – after all, why should they add one when things are going just fine?

Why does your business need a blog? Because blogs are a major part of a content marketing strategy and they have the potential to bring you even more business. Doesn’t that sound good? Here are three reasons why your business needs a blog:

Business blogs help you grow brand awareness.

There have been countless studies done that show just how effective and useful blogs are for businesses. As a matter of fact, businesses with a blog are able to generate more leads over those who don’t have a blog – the more leads you have, the greater chance of turning those leads into customers.

Blogs are also a drastically valuable tool in terms of marketing. Once you publish a blog on your website, you now have content to share across social media platforms and increase your ranking on search engines! The content you invest in now has the potential to attract and educate customers about your brand for months and years down the line.

You communicate directly with your customers.

As a business owner, understanding your customers and their needs + wants is a valuable marketing tool. When you have blog, which you can also link up across social media platforms, you create content that allows them to connect with you – this relationship-building develops trust and loyalty and gives you a leg up on the competition. It gives your brand a face, a personality -- and sometimes customers prefer to connect with a person over a brand.

A blog also gives you the opportunity to establish authority in a certain topic. For example, if you have a skincare line, a blog highlighting details about common skincare issues, ways in which your product helps and other tips and information that's helpful to your ideal customer will help you stand out against a skincare company that simply sells a product without appearing as knowledgeable, accessible or connected as you.

SEO is built up with consistent, quality content.

You don’t need to be an expert in search engine optimization (SEO) to know that consistent, quality content will help you increase your position in the search engines. Writing a few blogs and then waiting to hit the number one spot on Google in a week isn’t going to happen – you need to put out consistent blogs over the course of weeks and months to gain that coveted spot. That's not to say that it will take months to see a difference -- not at all! As with any marketing strategy, each new post added to your business blog helps your online presence grow and you have content to share to develop a community both online and off.

While it seems impossible to keep up with changing algorithms and search engine rules, the bottom line is this: search engines favor website with fresh, quality content over websites that aren’t updated as often. It’s all about offering useful information to your audience!

Whether you want to use fresh new content to reach your audience, establish authority, or simply have content to share with an email list or social media platforms, there are many reasons why having a blog on your website is valuable and offers a substantial ROI over other marketing efforts.
